We’re excited to be able to announce our 2021 Alaska Adventure August 15-21, 2021
Join Gary & Darlene for our 2021 Alaska-Denali photography workshop! This Alaska adventure is all inclusive except airfare to and from Anchorage. We will have comfortable private home accommodations in beautiful locations for you to enjoy. Each person will have their own private bedroom. Our meals will be catered and there will be plenty to eat. We will have a deluxe Transit van for transportation during the workshop.
We will be picking the group up at Ted Stevens International Airport on the morning of August 15th, after which we will travel to the Matanuska Valley where we have 3 nights reserved at the Alaska Harvest Lodge. While there we will travel to Cooper Landing on the scenic Kenai Peninsula in search of grizzly bears along the Kenai and Russian rivers. Along the way we will be travelling along the incredibly scenic Turnagain Arm and into the majestic Chugach and Kenai mountains. We will also go to Hatcher Pass and historic Independence Mine for some beautiful high alpine photography in the Hatcher Pass bowl.
On August 18th we will travel north toward Denali/Mount McKinley to the quaint little town of Talkeetna where we will be for the rest of our time staying at the Talkeetna Hideaway Lodge. From there we will adventure north early one morning to the Denali South viewpoint along the Parks Highway for a sunrise over Denali, Mt. Foraker (known as Denali’s wife) and Mt. Hunter (known as Denali’s child) with the Tokosha Mountains, Alaska Range, Ruth glacier and Tokositna river all in one shot! We will then continue to Denali National Park where we will spend the day traveling by National Park bus through the tundra in hopes of seeing bears, moose, caribou, wolves, Dall sheep, ptarmigan and more as we head to the Eielson Visitors Center which sits on the tundra surrounded by the beauty of Denali and the Alaska Range.
Additional Activities: Because Alaska weather can be unpredictable in the long term, we will be planning to take one of three additional side trips. Please note that we will be taking one of the trips listed below. All are completely epic so no matter the weather we can’t lose. Again, the trip that we’ll be taking will be determined according the weather at the time.
- Trip one clear weather – A flight from Talkeetna to photograph Denali/Mt McKinley from the air. We’ll circle the mountain by bush plane and will land on the Ruth glacier in the Don Sheldon Amphitheater. This particular trip is a chance of a lifetime opportunity and is completely weather dependent.
- Trip two cloudy or rainy weather – A chartered boat trip to the Chiswell Islands in the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge in the Gulf of Alaska for incredible scenery, rugged islands, shoreline and wildlife.
- Trip three cloudy weather and rough seas in the gulf of Alaska – A chartered boat trip to the The Prince William Sound for breathtaking remote scenery and wildlife opportunities.
All meals are included excluding alcohol. You are welcome to have alcohol beverages at the cabin. Both properties as well as the van are non-smoking. Continental breakfast will be served each morning at the lodge. A well equipped lunch buffet will be set up in the mornings prior to leaving the lodge where everyone can pack a sack lunch. Dinners will be either at the lodge or at a restaurant depending on how far from the lodge that we are when we get hungry.
Darlene and I do our best to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable on our trips. We would love to include you this next August.
